What is a slipcover?
What is a slipcover? A slipcover is a fabric covering for your couch, sofa, loveseat or big chair in your den, living room or other places you have furniture. It is ready-made, not custom made. This fact makes slipcovers the best value in home decorating products today. Whether it is a sofa, loveseat or chair, "one size fits most" and they look great on. So instead of hundreds or even thousands of dollars, you have a great new look for around a hundred bucks at most, usually. In fact, with a two piece slipcover from TheSlipcoverCompany.com, everyone will think you have a new couch. Our patented design makes this possible. They come in three sizes, Sofa, Loveseat and Chair, one size fits most, and they fit best on wide armed furniture.
What size slipcover do I need?
Key things to remember when looking for the best fit:
- Round arm furniture.
- Rectangular shaped seat cushions.
- Parson’s chair shape for Dining Chair
Keeping the above guidelines in mind, the following furniture dimensions fit the corresponding slipcover:
Sofa slipcover: Your sofa should measure 74 inches to 96 inches from arm to arm.
Loveseat: Your loveseat should measure 58 inches to 73 inches from arm to arm.
Chair: Your chair should measure 35 inches to 58 inches from arm to arm.
Dining Chair: Your dining chair should measure 34” high, with seat height 19”, and top seat dimensions should be 22” wide and 22” deep.
How do they work?
Each size, sofa, loveseat or chair, is loosely designed to cover most pieces of that type. Correct draping of fabric, (which is easy because there are illustrated directions), a few tucks here and there, put the cushion cover on the cushions if you have a two piece, a few more tucks, and voila. New stretch fabric makes this even easier and better fitting! They stay in place, but you do need to re-tuck & smooth once every few sittings or after a pillow fight, or... never mind!

What’s easier, making your bed or putting on a slipcover?
There are illustrated instructions that come with every slipcover. Make sure the arms are over the arms, pull the cover over the furniture and follow the instructions.
What makes one more expensive than the other?
Generally, it is the quality of the fabric. The heavier the fabric, the more exotic the fabric, if it has a special treatment, weave, finish or other characteristic that adds value to the fabric, then the slipcover is more expensive. Fabrics come in an infinite variety. Cotton, chenille, suede, micro suede and a host of others are available. Additionally, solids, like duck and twill, jacquards, prints, exotic weaves and combinations are available too. Also since more fabric is used for a sofa, than a loveseat, and a loveseat more than a chair, Sofa is usually the most expensive, then the loveseat, then the chair. Also, two piece covers, that is, the ones that come with separate cushion covers, are more expensive, because there is more fabric involved.
How durable are these slipcovers?
Very! All fabrics are tested thoroughly for home use, and meet the strictest standards, and it doesn’t matter whether it is a fancy or a solid. They are comfortable too. Make sure you follow the care instructions on the label. As in any fabric product, even though our products are pre-shrunk, there can be a very minute amount of shrinkage when washing if you have a slipcover that is not dry clean only. Dry in very low or no heat.
Do you have any decorating tips?
Most professional decorators mix and coordinate as opposed to mix and match. Use a solid color for a sofa and a fancy for a chair, for example. Remember that your slipcovers are going into a room that has decorative elements already there. The wall colors, the rug color, area rugs, window treatment, all should be taken into consideration. Do you want to highlight your new slipcover or have it blend in? Do you have a casual room or more formal? Pictures in shelter magazines often have great decorating ideas. Swatches are available for a small shipping and handling fee.
